Open call After the Deluge Quite apart from the fact that we want to show who we are and leave a lasting impression of all the good and all the beauty that mankind has created, there is no denying the ecological effect we have on our planet. The effects become more visible day by day. Just look at the current climate change and the increasing temperatures on earth. The melting ice caps are changing our planet just as definitively as the former ice ages. The American ecologist Eugene Stroemer was the first to come up with the idea of characterizing the effect of mankind as a measurable, powerful biological and geological change. Stroemer advocates a geological epoch of his own called ‘Man’, just like the Tertiary and the Holocene, but geologists disagree. Our impact is now threatening our existence, but will the rise in sea level and the remnants of plastic in the great timescale of our planet still be noticeable in a thousand years? Doesn’t nature just take over our place again as if we never existed?

“Ik fotografeer intuïtief, de beelden uit de serie zijn ontstaan door herinneringen, illusies en dromen te combineren. Het gevoel is daarbij leidend. Iedere foto vertelt een stukje over vroeger, het kind zijn. Het kleine meisje op de foto’s is niet meer wie ik nu ben, maar heeft mij wél geholpen om te groeien naar de vrouw die ik nu ben. Als kind had volwassen zijn iets magisch. Maar eenmaal volwassen lijkt het mij juist heerlijk om af en toe weer even kind te zijn. Alles leek anders als kind, de bomen waren hoger,de kleuren feller, en elke nieuwe dag leek spannender dan de vorige. Door de serie te maken werd ik weer even terug gevoerd in die heerlijke onbezorgde tijd van toen”.
Judith’s fotografie is kleurrijk, eigenzinnig en vaak een spel met licht. Ze fotografeert kinderen en volwassen in haar eigen stijl. Dat doet ze in opdracht van particulieren, maar ook voor andere opdrachtgevers. Alhoewel Judith van Mil nog maar pas (maart 2019) haar fotografie opleiding heeft afgerond bij BeeldCentrum timmert ze al behoorlijk aan de weg. Haar eindexamenwerk zal in de komende maanden op verschillende locaties worden geëxposeerd en ook zijn onderdelen van deze serie en ander werk gepubliceerd op de site van de Italiaanse Voque.

“I’m an intuitive photographer. The images are a combination of memories, illusions and dreams. Each picture tells a story about my childhood. The little girl on the pictures isn’t the same person I am today, but she helped me to grow into the woman I am now. As a child adulthood seemed magical, but adult life sometimes makes me wish to go back to childhood again. Everything seemed different when as a child: the trees were higher, the colours were brighter, and every new day seemed more interesting than the last”. By telling the story I was able to go back in time en go through happy memories”
Judith’s photography is colorfull, quirky and often a painting with light. She photographs children and adults in her specific style. She works for individuals as well as business clients. She just graduated (March 2019) at “Beeldcentrum” and is already an upcoming photographer. The Serie RECOLLECTION will be exposed on different locations. Parts of her work has been online published on the Italian Voque.
